Tree of Life series

Picture
The “Tree of Life Series” is the earliest expression of Oryan’s self-discovered “Liquid Fusion” technique. In a complex world of constant interactions and demands, Oryan wishes to show the viewer a life pared down to one entity - one tree.  Since all of us share the same basic form, it is our personal experiences which set us apart and define our individuality.  If one thinks of a forest as the essence of humanity, Oryan is pulling each tree out of that forest one at a time and painting it as one unique life.  Perhaps your life.  Each tree is meant to represent personal growth (choices) and experience; the various paths taken as we forge ahead in life.  Sometimes the movement is straight up with steadfast ambition, sometimes gently twisting, but regardless of the shape, we move on with undeniable life energy.  Oryan wants each tree to symbolize these vast and varied aspects of a life in one single, mesmerizing image – the tree.
A Tree can also be a singular symbol of our family and loved ones.  We shade each other, we grow together, and we create future generations.  Each tree is unique and magical just as every family has its own individuality and presence. So whether viewed as one person, or one family, the “Tree of Life” is meant to define and inspire.

Gaia Series

Picture
Some very esoteric free-thinkers believe that the Earth is a self-regulating, conscious entity where everything interconnects and constantly interacts to keep the planet growing and functioning.  This theory is called Gaia (guy-ah).  And it is the inspiration for Oryan’s “Gaia Series”; a suite of paintings that brings nature, wildlife and the human figure together in a beautiful, artistic fashion. These paintings are a natural progression from the “Tree of Life Series” in that with the “Gaia Series” you will see various individual elements of this world mysteriously connect in magical proximity, creating an incredible sense of the possible and the unknown.
Oryan’s “Gaia Series” is the most technically demanding of his paintings.  Often working from a live model as inspiration, Oryan must make subtle shifts in the form and seamlessly transition the figure into the surrounding naturalistic elements. Creative and magical, the “Gaia Series” offers us all a visual symbol of transformation and natural energy.

 Network series

Picture
These paintings in turn developed out of the Gaia Series and go full circle back to the concept of a world of trees, the forest, an environment resonating with vibrancy and life.  The “Network Series” paintings are designed to represent and revisit this interconnectedness of our lives.  Looking into the deep layers of paint, one can imagine the endless patterns and movements of humanity and nature overlapping through space and time.  Oryan wants us to look at it as the network, the fiber; the web….and encourages the viewer not to seek out specific shapes and figures amid the abstract, but instead, to consider the entire world.  The “Network Series” is the cumulative design of life pulsing in and out, our individual lives overlapping and sewn together in a cosmic patchwork.

Oryan Technique Points to share with clients

  • The technique is called “Liquid Fusion” and it is a totally unique way of painting invented by Oryan
  • Oryan manipulates and creates his own paints so that the pigments react differently to the canvas and to each other than typical paints do
  • With “Liquid Fusion”, the different paint pigments he has uniquely finessed, alternately attract and repel each other, much like magnets.  Oryan coaxes this ‘battle’ of color and substance multi-directionally on the canvas with paintbrushes, blow torches, even his bare hands.  He alternates between working on the floor so the canvas is flat and at his easel.  (It is the same easel his grandfather made for him over 20 years ago).
  • After each layer dries or solidifies, Oryan moves on to the next layer.  This results in a canvas that has anywhere from 25-30 layers of pigment, texture and detail.
  • Oryan uses mostly acrylic paints, iridescent and translucent paint, mica powders and even finely ground minerals such as granite, quartz and other rare earth particles
  • The translucent metallic paint he uses has a high “light-fastness” meaning that 1 layer is very, very thin, almost clear and he must use layer upon layer for the pigment to actually build up and show an opaque color.  Extremely time consuming.
  • Due to the intense layering of these thin, almost clear applications, the layers can be blended and caused to interact which gives it some appearances of an oil painting with its depth
  • After all the paint and pigment has been applied, Oryan’s unique and self-discovered “Liquid Fusion” process includes heating the canvas from the front with a blow torch or a metal body-work tool. By doing this, Oryan is artistically counteracting the fact that the various components have reacted and repelled each other.  He is guiding all the elements into place as he has visualized the final painting.
  • Additionally, there is a high density clearcoat fired onto the canvas to complete the artwork. This extra high polish surface creates a beautiful veneer under which to admire the intricacies of the painting and adds to the depth perception of the painting.  Besides creating a polished and defining finish, the epoxy is scratch resistant and adds a protective layer to the artistic pigments.
  • Of course, other artists are trying to figure out his technique and exact process as it is not often that an artist invents a totally new style and method of creating original artwork.
